Which Airlines Offer the Most Legroom?

Whether you’re claustrophobic, an above-average sized person, or just simply someone who enjoys stretching out, you’ve probably noticed the lack of legroom that many airlines tend to have.

At our EWR Airport parking company, we put together a list (with a little help from www.cheapflights.com) of the average amount of legroom each airline offers its passengers. We also included the standard seat width and if you’re able to purchase an upgrade for more room.

 

 

 

Jet Blue

  • 33″-34″ of legroom, depending on aircraft
  • Standard seat width: 17.8-18.25″, depending on aircraft
  • Upgrade options: The Even More Space class offers 38″-41″ of legroom, depending on the aircraft.

Virgin America

  • 32″ of legroom
  • Standard seat width: 17.7″
  • Upgrade options: Main Cabin Select seating offers 38″ of legroom and a standard seat width of 19.7″, while First Class seating offers 55″ of legroom and a standard seat width of 21″.

Southwest

  • 31″-32″ of legroom, depending on aircraft
  • Standard seat width: 17″
  • Upgrade options: None.

Delta

  • 31″-33″ of legroom, depending on aircraft
  • Standard seat width: 17.5″
  • Upgrade options: The Economy Comfort class offers 34″-37″ of legroom, depending on the aircraft. Business Class seats on wide-body jets are lie-flat seats and offer up to 80″ of sleeping space. First Class seats have up to 38″ of legroom.

US Airways

  • 31″-32″ of legroom, depending on aircraft
  • Standard seat width:17.5″
  • Upgrade options: Business Class and First Class seats both offer 39″ of legroom and a standard seat width of up to 49″.

American Airlines

  • 31″ of legroom
  • Standard seat width: 17.5″
  • Upgrade options: The Main Cabin Extra class offers 37″ of legroom. Business Class and First Class seats offer lie-flat beds with up to 64″ of sleeping space or recliner seats with 62″ of legroom.

United

  • 31″ of legroom
  • Standard seat width: 18″
  • Upgrade options: Economy Plus seats offer 36″ of legroom. First Class seats offer 39″ of legroom and a standard seat width of 24″. Global First Class and Global Business Class offer lie-flat seats that offer 78″ of sleeping space or regular seats with a standard seat width of 23″ (First Class) or 22″ (Business Class).

Frontier Airlines

  • 30″-31″, depending on aircraft
  • 17″-18″, depending on aircraft
  • Upgrade options: The Stretch Seating class offers seats with 36″ of legroom.

Spirit Airlines

  • 28″ of legroom
  • Standard seat width: 17.75″
  • Upgrade options: Big Front Seats offer 37″ of legroom and a standard seat width of 20″.
