7 More Ways to Make the Most of Your Travel Budget

Last year, we wrote a blog titled “7 Ways to Make the Most of Your Travel Budget,” and we thought we’d continue the idea of saving money while you travel with seven more things you can do:

Travel During Off-Season

There are reasons people head to Hawaii in the summer or Australia in the winter and it’s at these times you’ll likely pay more for airfare or hotels. Instead, head somewhere during the off-season to get great deals and maneuver fewer crowds.

Book All-Inclusive

Many times, all-inclusive vacations like resorts or cruises give you the most bang for your buck. You’ll get all of your meals, drinks, and sometimes even airfare lumped into one price so you can spend more of your budget on souvenirs or activities.

Take Advantage of Wi-Fi

If you’re traveling outside the country, calling and texting fees can be outrageous when you use your phone’s network. Instead, wait to connect with friends and family until you find a place that offers wi-fi.

Earn Points

If you travel often, invest in one of the many programs that lets you earn points for the things you do. Whether it’s a frequent flyer miles credit card or a hotel rewards program, you’ll rack up points that will save you money in the future.

Make Your Meals

Instead of paying for every meal each day of your trip, stop by a grocery store and make your own food. If you have a refrigerator in your hotel, you can easily buy the elements to make sandwiches for lunch. Or, if you have access to a kitchen, cook your own dinner.

Go on Free Tours

Many major cities offer free walking tours, and while some of them may be cheesy or brief, they can give you an easy (and free) way to see parts of the area.

Try a Work Exchange Program

If you really want to make the most of your travel budget, work for your food or your lodging. There are several programs available that can arrange for you to do volunteer work in another country and in exchange for your service, you’ll receive consolation like food or lodging. While you’ll have to pay to get there and back, you’ll be able to spend more money on sightseeing or excursions.

And as always, you can save even more when you park with us instead of parking at Newark Airport. Make a reservation today!
