Music and arts have long been a part of historical Newark, New Jersey, and whether you’re a local or a visitor, the city offers plenty of places to see a concert, show, performance, and more. Here are a few great venues that our EWR Airport parking company suggests checking out:
New Jersey Performing Arts Center
Head to downtown Newark and you’ll find one of the largest performing arts centers in the U.S. The New Jersey Performing Arts Center is home to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1922. In addition to NJSO concerts, the venue also hosts a variety of other musicians, singers, comedians, parties, festivals, and presentations for all ages. You can also find arts education programs for parents, students, schools, and the community that focus on things like music, dance, theater, poetry, and more.
The Wellmont Theater
Just a few miles outside of Newark is the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey. The venue began as a theater for live entertainment in 1922, but in 1929, it began showing movies instead. It wasn’t until a $3 million renovation in 2008 that it became a music venue and today, it’s home to Live Nation concerts. Throughout the year, the Wellmont hosts renowned musical acts, comedians, parties, and themed shows of many different genres. Visitors can also enjoy brunch or dinner at the theater’s on-site restaurant or even plan their own private event.
Newark Symphony Hall
Built in 1925, Newark Symphony Hall was originally known as The Mosque Theater and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The venue is home to several stages including the Sarah Vaughan Concert Hall, the Terrace Ballroom, and the Newark Stage where it hosts dance parties and musical groups as well as children’s programs. Newark Symphony Hall also has an Arts on Stage program, which helps give emerging artists a chance to display their talents by providing a place to perform. Our EWR Airport parking company suggests swinging by for a show.
