About Newark International Airport
On October 1, 1928, Newark Liberty International Airport began serving the New York Metropolitan area. Located in Newark, New Jersey, EWR provides access to thirty major airlines. Newark International is one of the three airports that serve the New York/New Jersey area. Each year, over 42 million passengers fly out of EWR.
Used for military operations during the second world war, Newark International Airport reopened for commercial use in 1964 under the Port Authority of New York. Between 1964 and 1990, EWR grew exponentially. Additions to the airport included rental car facilities, two terminals, a rail system, and countless amenities to make travel convenient for air passengers.
EWR is one of United Airlines’ largest hubs and this bustling airport is steeped in American history. On September 11, 2001, a United Airlines flight left EWR and never reached its final destination. The hijacked plane crashed in Pennsylvania and left no survivors. “Liberty” was added to the airport’s name to honor the victims of the tragic events of 9/11.

Newark Airport Terminals
Each of the three Newark Airport terminals has a specific purpose and serves different airlines. The terminals sit in a semi-circular formation and accommodate domestic, international, and United Airlines flights. More Information About Terminal A
Newark Airport’s Terminal A is designated for domestic and regional flights. It has three concourses, A1, A2, and A3 and is the oldest of the three Newark Airport terminals. Because the terminal has three concourses, passengers must reenter security if they are connecting to a flight leaving from a different concourse. Terminal A features four levels that house restaurants, kiosks, shops, and the gate area.
Terminal A hosts a wide selection of places to eat, drink, and shop. Free wifi is available throughout the terminal so travelers can work, browse social media, or check on flight updates while they wait. Each concourse features a lounge where passengers can escape the crowds and relax including the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge in concourse A1, the United Club Lounge in concourse A2, and the American Admirals Club Lounge in concourse A3.

More Information About Terminal B
Terminal B is the central terminal at EWR. This Newark Airport terminal has three concourses, but most of the dining and shopping opportunities are found in concourses B1 and B3. Fortunately, passengers can travel throughout the three concourses without going through security each time. Terminal B features several lounges including Art and Lounge, British Airways Galleries Club Lounge, Delta Sky Club, Lufthansa Business and Senator Lounges, SAS Lounge, Virgin Atlantic Lounge, and USO Lounge. Security and Customs at Newark Airport
Each of the Newark Airport terminals has three security checkpoints and customs can be found in Terminals B and C. Out of the nine security checkpoints including all of Terminal A’s checkpoints and checkpoint B1 in Terminal B have designated TSA PreCheck lanes. Frequent flyers can sign up for TSA PreCheck at the enrollment center in Terminal C to save time when flying.
Global Entry kiosks for international passengers are located in Terminals B and C for those who have been cleared. Individuals needing an interview or wishing to enroll can do so in Terminals B and C. Mobile Passport Control is available at EWR to help eligible passengers travel smoothly through customs.
Additional Services at Newark Airport
Each of the Newark Airport terminals offers a variety of additional services to ensure the comfort and safety of EWR travelers. Traveler’s Aid is available to passengers who need help with missed flights or lost luggage. Children’s play areas and baby facilities provide a family-friendly space to wait for flights. Pet owners and travelers with service animals can take their pets to the relief stations.
Duty-free shops allow travelers to purchase items without paying tax, and there are ample currency exchange stations in each of the Newark Airport terminals. In Terminal C, the interfaith chapel offers a place for travelers to pray and engage in their spiritual practices. While luggage storage is not available at this time, skycaps are available to help with baggage loading and unloading to make EWR more accessible. The economy lots at EWR are about three miles away from the Newark Airport terminals. The daily maximum rate for economy parking is $18* per day, but you’ll have to take the shuttle to your terminal. Economy parking is ideal for those who want to save money and don’t mind taking the time to get from the lot to the terminal. Travelers can park in the economy lot for a maximum of 30 days. To save even more money, make a reservation at Newark Airport Long Term Parking’s offsite facility.
Parking is not permitted outside of the Newark Airport terminals. Those picking up and dropping off passengers from the airport should park in one of the garages or lots to avoid getting towed. The free Cell Phone Lot is the best option for picking up and dropping off passengers, and it’s only five minutes from the Newark Airport terminals.
Short-term parking lots are located across from Terminals A and B and in the Terminal C garage. The maximum daily rate for short-term parking at EWR is $39*. Those traveling on trips that only last a few days should park in short-term parking.
Daily parking is located in garage P4. This lot is a bit further away from the Newark Airport terminals, but it only costs $34* per day. This lot is ideal for those who are going on short trips and don’t mind the extra walk or ride to the terminal.
