Is It Worth Reserving Newark Airport Parking Online? What You Save and What You Get

Reserving Newark Airport parking online

The short answer

Yes, for almost any trip longer than a few hours. At Newark Airport Long Term Parking (NALTP), reserving online drops our published rate from $35 to $30 per day, and LTP Club members who reserve pay from $18.99 per day, before taxes and fees. The Port Authority’s lots at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) work the same way, with prebooking saving $5 to $20 per day. A reservation also guarantees your space on busy dates. And because NALTP reservations are free to make and fully refundable until they start, there is very little downside to booking early.

We have operated off-airport parking two to three minutes from EWR since 1994, and because we offer three price tiers, we see what booking ahead is worth every day. This guide shows what reserving online actually saves at Newark, what a reservation does and doesn’t cover, and whether to book directly or through a parking app. If you already know you want to book, our Newark Airport parking reservations page walks you through it in about a minute.

Our published rates, side by side

We offer three ways to pay. The difference between them is simply how far ahead we know you are coming.

Walk-in rate
$35.00per day and up. No reservation, and a space only if one is open.
Reserve online
$30.00per day and up. Your space is guaranteed.
LTP Club, with reservation
$18.99per day and up. Free to join.

How much prebooking saves at every Newark lot

Here is the same comparison for a typical one-week trip. The pattern holds everywhere at EWR. The drive-up price is the highest price you can pay for a given lot.

Daily figures are the published starting or maximum rates. One-week figures multiply by seven days.
Where you park Drive-up per day Reserved per day You save per day You save per week
NALTP, reserve online $35.00 $30.00 $5.00 $35.00
NALTP, LTP Club $35.00 $18.99 $16.01 $112.07
P6 Economy lot $35 as low as $30 $5 $35
P4 Daily garage $60 as low as $40 $20 $140
Terminal A garage $65 as low as $50 $15 $105
Terminal B and C garages $70 as low as $50 $20 $140

Two things are worth noticing. First, the savings grow with every day you’re away, so the longer the trip, the more reserving matters. Second, during peak periods the Port Authority adds a drive-up surcharge at its lots and warns that drivers without a prebooked space may not find one. We cover that in detail in our guide to parking during peak travel seasons at Newark Airport.

The benefits that don’t show up on the price tag

Your space is guaranteed

A prepaid reservation holds a space for you for the dates you choose. We’ll park walk-in customers when we have room, but on holiday weekends and summer Fridays that isn’t something to count on. Knowing your space is waiting takes the guesswork out of a travel morning, and you won’t need a backup plan.

Your price is set when you book

We take payment in full when you reserve, so the rate you book is the rate you pay. Since our prices move with demand, booking weeks ahead of a busy date usually gets you a better number than booking the night before.

Reserving is free, and so is changing your mind

There’s no reservation fee or holding fee. Reservations are fully refundable up to the start date and time, and you can cancel yourself with the link at the bottom of your confirmation email. Refunds typically reach your card in three to five days.

Check-in and checkout go faster

We’re a paperless facility, so you don’t need to print anything. We look you up by last name, or LTP Club members scan in with the e-card in the NALTP app. Because a reservation is paid up front, checkout on your return is quicker too.

There’s flexibility built in

The drop-off and pickup times on your reservation are estimates, and we don’t hold you to them. If your flight is canceled and moved to the next day, we reopen your reservation at checkout, charge a canceled flight fee of 50 percent of the daily rate, and you use the same reservation the following day. If your flight is canceled outright, we charge that fee and refund the rest of your prepaid reservation.

What a reservation doesn’t cover

Booking ahead solves most parking problems, but not all of them. Here’s the fine print, in plain language.

It becomes non-refundable once it starts

You can cancel for a full refund right up to the start date and time. After that, the reservation can’t be refunded, because we held that space for you and turned other drivers away.

Some large vehicles can’t park, reservation or not

We can’t accommodate many full-size pickups, large vans, extra-large SUVs, or vehicles modified to be wider than stock. These are turned away at the gate even with a reservation, so check the current vehicle list before you book.

Parking is billed in 24-hour intervals

Each interval starts at the time you park. Keep that in mind when you estimate your return time.

Booking direct vs. booking through a parking app

Parking apps and comparison sites are handy for seeing your options, and the price is sometimes the same as booking with us. The differences show up when something changes.

Third-party terms vary by company. Check the terms of the site you book with.
What matters Booking directly with NALTP Booking NALTP through a third party
Cancelling or changing Cancel yourself from your confirmation email, fully refundable until the reservation starts You must cancel through the company you booked with, under its policy
Booking fees No reservation or holding fee Some platforms add a service fee, so compare the checkout total
LTP Club Members book from their account and manage every reservation in one place The booking lives in the other company’s account
Who helps if plans change Our team, 24 hours a day The booking company’s customer support

If you do book through another site, save that company’s confirmation and contact details. Our team can’t cancel or refund a reservation we didn’t sell.

When reserving ahead isn’t the better deal

We’d rather you get this right than book something you don’t need.

  • Quick pickups and drop-offs. If you’re meeting an arriving flight, the Port Authority’s free cell phone lot is the better choice. You wait in your car and drive to the curb when your traveler is ready.
  • ADA plates at on-airport lots. The Port Authority offers a courtesy discount for vehicles with official ADA plates or placards, with a 24-hour maximum of $35. That discount can’t be combined with a prebooked reservation, so compare both before you book an on-airport space.

For nearly every other trip, booking ahead costs less and removes a variable from your travel day.

How to get the most out of an online reservation

  1. Join the LTP Club before you book

It’s free, it unlocks the member rate, and new members get a free day of parking. Sign up first so your reservation is booked at the club price and shows up in your account.

  2. Book as soon as your flights are set

For Thanksgiving and the December holidays, aim for three to four weeks ahead. For other busy weekends, two weeks is usually enough. Since reservations are refundable until they start, early is almost always better.

  3. Enter your best estimate for times

Pick the time you expect to pull in and the time you expect to be back. You don’t need to be exact, but a realistic estimate helps us plan shuttles and space.

  4. Check your vehicle and keep your email

Confirm your vehicle isn’t on the oversized list, and keep your confirmation email. The cancel link is at the bottom if your plans change.

  5. On travel day, just show up

Give us your last name or scan your app e-card at the gate. Aim to arrive about 10 minutes before you want to be at the terminal, and add time on peak days. Keep the card we hand you on the shuttle, because it has the number to call for your ride back.

Why frequent Newark travelers join the LTP Club

Membership is free, so if you fly out of EWR even once a year, there’s little reason not to join.

  • Our lowest rate. Members reserve from $18.99 per day, compared with $35 for walk-ins.
  • A free day for joining. New members start with 10 LTP points, and 10 points equal a free day of parking.
  • Points on every paid day. Points build toward more free days and are tracked in your account automatically.
  • Express check-in and checkout. Scan your e-card at the gate with the NALTP app.
  • One-tap pickup requests. Request your shuttle from the app when you land.
  • No annual fee. Membership is free, with nothing to renew.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to reserve Newark Airport parking online?

In most cases, yes. At Newark Airport Long Term Parking, published rates start at $35 per day for walk-ins, $30 per day when you reserve online, and $18.99 per day for LTP Club members who reserve, before taxes and fees. The Port Authority’s own lots follow the same pattern. P6 Economy drops from $35 drive-up to as low as $30 prebooked, the P4 Daily garage from $60 to as low as $40, and the terminal garages from up to $70 to as low as $50.

Does it cost anything to make a parking reservation at NALTP?

No. There is no reservation fee or holding fee. You pay for the parking itself, in full, when you book.

Can I cancel an online parking reservation?

Yes. Reservations with NALTP are fully refundable up to the start date and time of the reservation. Use the cancel link at the bottom of your confirmation email. Refunds usually take three to five days to appear on your card. After the reservation starts, it is no longer refundable.

Do I have to arrive at the exact time on my reservation?

No. The drop-off and pickup times on an NALTP reservation are estimates. We ask for them so we can plan, but we do not hold you to the exact times.

What happens if my flight is canceled after I book?

If your flight is canceled and moved to the next day, we reopen your reservation at checkout, charge a canceled flight fee of 50 percent of the daily rate, and you use the same reservation the next day. If your flight is canceled completely, we charge the canceled flight fee and refund the balance of your prepaid reservation.

Should I book directly with the parking lot or through a parking app?

Parking apps are useful for comparing options, and prices are sometimes the same. If you book NALTP through a third party, though, you have to cancel or change that reservation through the company you booked with, under its terms. Booking directly keeps your reservation, cancellation, and customer service in one place, and LTP Club members can manage the booking from their account.

How far in advance should I reserve parking at Newark Airport?

As soon as your flights are set. For Thanksgiving and the December holidays, aim for three to four weeks ahead. For other busy weekends, two weeks is usually enough. Because NALTP reservations are refundable until they start, booking early carries little risk. For its on-airport lots, the Port Authority recommends prebooking at least 24 hours ahead.

Is the LTP Club worth joining?

For most people who fly out of Newark more than once a year, yes. Membership is free with no annual fee. Members reserve from $18.99 per day, get a free day of parking for joining, earn points toward free days on paid parking, and can use the NALTP app for express check-in and one-tap pickup requests.
