As you can guess, some crazy things happen at airports and Newark Liberty International Airport is no different. Here, our EWR parking company found an article from northjersey.com that shares some of the most memorable things that have taken place at EWR. Which one is your favorite?
“Performance artist and New York City-based photographer Ventiko attempted to bring her “support” peacock Dexter on a flight with her at Newark Airport in January.
Dexter was denied entry onto the plane even though Ventiko had purchased a ticket for him. A United spokeswoman said the customer was told three times before she came to the airport that the peacock would not be able to fly with her. Instead, friends of the artist drove the peacock across the country.
Troy Fattun, a 25-year-old U.S. national living in Micronesia, opened the emergency exit door on his flight to Tampa, Florida while the plane was still on the tarmac, and activated the plane’s emergency chute.
Fattun slid down the chute where he was arrested by Port Authority police and is facing charges of interference with transportation, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.
A man from the Netherlands was arrested by customs agents in December 2016 after $78,000 worth of cocaine was discovered shoved in spandex shorts.
The shorts were in Rowald Thomas Tromp’s backpack as he arrived in Newark from Aruba. The cocaine, which was found when Tromp was passing through customs, weighed about 5 pounds.
Nine members of a television crew were arrested by TSA agents after it appeared they had a fake bomb in a carry-on bag in January.
The crew for the CNBC reality show “Staten Island Hustle,” was shooting an episode about a vacuum device used to compress luggage, according to creators. The items used to make the vacuum are also items commonly used to make a pipe bomb, which is what alerted the agents.
An employee with a civilian contractor within the airport was arrested after he punched a customs agent in the face.
Thomas Hodge was stopped by the customs agent after he tried to exit a jetway at an airport gate. Hodge allegedly cursed at the agent and assumed a “fighting stance” when the agent asked for his identification. The agent had a gash on his cheek and received more than eight stitches.”
